Monologue Evaluation
Monologue personal evaluation:
First Attempt:
On Wednesday 16th September I performed a monologue called 'Mona' from 'Eight' by Ella Mickson. My performance was very disappointing because without getting nervous and gathering a lot of confidence to perform in front of the teachers (judges), I was unable to perform the entire monologue, which contributed to an immense amount of emotion as I had practiced a lot for this audition. However, the adjustments that I personally think needed to be done in the monologue is the courage to perform the piece, the change of voice (tone , pitch and volume) to display various types of emotion depicted in the performance, and I could use more gestures to show the scenery around me and understand and sympathize with the feeling within my character. For example: the line 'just in and out, always in and out' I said it in a monotone voice which didn't portray the characters frustration instead I should've changed the tone to show the anger in this line.
Second Attempt:
On Thursday 17th September I was able to do another retake of the performance of the monologue and this time round I was able to accomplish my goals by performing the entire monologue without hesitating and being able to get the courage to use my space and use body movements to demonstrate a sense of progress between my first and this attempt, because I could clearly tell that there was a big difference in these performances which created a sense of accomplishment. As I was able to correct the mistakes in my last performance and used it, it has an opportunity to do better in this second attempt as I created more emotional characters by adjusting where it had to be done in the monologue to illustrate the feeling of trap conveyed by the character Mona. However, I feel that the audition could be enhanced further as I could use eye contact to engage the audience even more and particularly facial expression, so there was a clear understanding of what emotion I was trying to represent this that could have benefited from the empathy and announcement of the words so that the teachers (judges) and the audience could understand what I was saying.
